As if we couldn’t get any more hype for LeBron’s chance to solidify his place as the GOAT, we get this new advertisement from Nike that will surely cause you to experience all the emotions. Just try to watch this and feel nothing:
The iconic CHOSEN 1 tattoo is part and parcel to LBJ’s persona, and it’s worth pondering its origin story as the superstar approaches his ninth trip to the NBA Finals.
So, did Nike just pay big bucks to CGI a young LeBron, or did they pony up even bigger for time machine? Seriously, it’s like seeing Grand Moff Tarkin or Princess Leia in Rouge One.
This ad is great because it really captures the emotional appeal of the upcoming Finals. LeBron has been out to prove he’s the greatest since day one in the league, and the image that young LeBron envisioned so many years ago has come to fruition. Look at this stretch of dominance:

He has demonstrated that he is the chosen one. He has done what no other player could do, leading this admittedly terrible Cavaliers team to another Finals matchup, his eighth in a row. He has proven his ability to be super-clutch, be essentially a one-man team, and come back from any deficit.
But in LeBron’s mind, he still has something left to prove to somebody. If he can win this Finals, he will, in the minds of many, advance his legacy still further. He will solidify himself as the popular pick for greatest player of all time.
In just 50 seconds, with only two characters and just a few lines from the young King, Nike captures the tenor of the moment brilliantly. Watch it again!
