In a sequel that mirrored the original, the New Orleans Pelicans once again dominate the competition in its home opener.

In my latest game of NBA LIVE, I defeated the Sacramento Kings by a score of 149-129. Wait!!!! That wasn’t a game? This was real life in which the New Orleans Pelicans scored 149 points in regulation and neither  Anthony Davis or Jrue Holiday played a single second in the 4th quarter. Let’s talk about this.

Key Stat of the Game…

So many to choose from here. We could talk about the 76 points in the paint, the 35 assists on 56 made shots, or the 28 fast break points. But one stat sticks out above all others. 16 of 31 from three-point range. That’s 51% from downtown!!!!!

This team’s ability to score was never in question. They led the NBA in pace last season and will most likely be in the top three again this year.  With that many possessions, you will undoubtedly score points. The question was whether or not they could shoot with the upper echelon teams in the NBA.

It’s only a small sample size, but so far so good.

Turning Point…

The Pelicans blew the game open in the 3rd quarter scoring 38 points in the frame and building a 20 point lead heading into the 4th. It was capped off by a four point play by Darius Miller late in the quarter giving the Pelicans 110 heading into the 4th. The Pelicans were able to enforce their will and put the Kings away.

Player of the Game…

Is there any doubt here? The sharp shooting hand of Nikola Mirotic continues as he scored a career high 36 points. He once again was a flame thrower from deep shooting 5 of 9 on three pointers. The inside-outside starting combo of Davis and Mirotic has caused nightmares for the opposition.

Davis is allowed to work from the post with plenty of space to operate. Any threat of a double and the ball is kicked out to Mirotic who has made the defense pay dearly. No other front court is playing as well as these two early on in the season.

Next: New Orleans Pelicans home opener

The New Orleans Pelicans are 2-0 for the first time since the 2011-2012 season. They will look to continue their hot start when they host the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday.
